‘Porn Is Box Wine’
At our men’s group this week we discussed John Eldredge’s talk at Westmont College and the implications it has for us dealing with addiction to pornography.
One brother offered this analysis: “Porn is box wine.”
This was his way of distilling Eldredge’s thoughts on the full and vibrant life offered to us in Christ versus the cheap imitation of pornography.
i don’t know anything about wine, but this brother does. And he explained that box wine is the bargain variety; cheap quality. And pornography, along with all of its friends — lust and masturbation — are cheap substitutes for real sex. They are also cheap substitutes for Life, which is the real search of every addict.
The box wine comment was connected to Eldredge’s remarks about Jesus’ actions at the Wedding at Cana in John 2. The wine God has for us is of the highest quality.
