Our Relationship With Porn
Our relationship with Porn has developed in many ways because we are searching for an answer to the question: “Am i a man?”
The question lingers because of what we have been told about who we are as men. The question is at the heart of our struggle with Pornography, Lust and Masturbation (PLM).
We are always seeking affirmation of our masculinity when we run to those idols. We hope to feel encouraged and validated as men. And we keep taking the hunger for that security to The Woman.
Many men, when they are in the presence of a beautiful woman, watch her, hoping for a glance of her eyes or an expression on her face that will affirm them. They are tied to The Woman for a sense of security and confidence as men. They have defined masculinity as the ability to capture the attention of a beautiful woman.
A man needs to know, at the core of his being, that he is truly a man. That knowledge, ideally, is passed on from fathers to their sons. Many did not get that. Fortunately, God the Father speaks into our lives and shapes us.
He even did this for Jesus. In Matthew 3:16-17, when Jesus got baptized, God declared: “This is my son with whom I am well pleased.” It is no wonder that Jesus was confident and secure; He knew exactly who He was and what He was doing.
We need those words from the Heavenly Father. When we hear those words from The Father, we are changed and we stop running to The Woman to get validation.
Our relationship with porn will drastically change when the answer to “Am i a man?” is answered by the only One who can truly answer that: our Creator.
