Pornography emasculates men.

i know, it seems the opposite is true.  Many people think that looking at porn and lusting after women is manly — as manly as it gets. The thinking is that looking at pornography is just what men do.  It’s natural and totally normal. And if a man is not into that, then questions are raised about him.

What’s his problem? He must be gay.

Not looking at porn makes you someone who is viewed as a freak by our society at large.

But the truth is, pornography is not core to masculinity. Rather, it destroys authentic masculinity. Mary Layden, Ph.D. discussed how pornography robs men of their masculinity in this video.

The real thing, when it comes to masculinity is pretty basic.  A man knows how to use his strength for good things. He isn’t self-centered. He actually knows how to cultivate healthy relationships — both with women and other men.

But consider what pornography does to a man.

Men are affected in one of two ways when they get into porn. They either become hyper-aggressive, using their strength to dominate others to get what they want, or they become extremely passive, abdicating responsibility and refusing to use what strength they have.  Pornography trains a man to consume women for personal pleasure.  In either case the masculinity at work is false.  When authentic masculinity is absent, a man is — by definition — emasculated.
