Like A Moth To The Flame
It’s amazing how many times i will hear a man talk about having a rough week with acting out on his pornography addiction, wringing his hands and staring at the floor as he talks, only to hear that he made his own trouble.
He got burned dancing so close to the flame because he went “cruising.”
It started with a legitimate web site such as a news site or something. But then, before long, he got curious about the photo essay on the cheerleader tryouts for the NFL team in his city, and one thing led to another.
This is a place we have all been. But for us to act surprised at the result is naive and, Biblically speaking, foolish.
Proverbs tells us again and again — you get the impression that sexual integrity is really important when you read the Proverbs — that we should make “level paths for our feet and avoid evil;” that we should stay far from the adulteress, and so on. in fact, the Biblical admonition is to steer a course that is deliberately far from where the temptation is likely to be.
Many men seem to operate the opposite way, thinking that they are strong enough to watch a certain movie or — should be — and so they step into danger.
Paul tells us that athletes go into strict training to earn a crown that will not last (1 Cor.9: 24-27), but we will earn a crown that will last forever. Therefore, the implication is, we should go into strict training. One aspect of that strict training is to keep a path far from the adulteress and not dance close to the flame.
