Magazine Editor Regrets Publishing Soft Porn

Vice Report had a link to this story in the Daily Mail in the UK, written by Martin Daubney, formerly the editor of Loaded, one of England’s lad mags.

Loaded, which considers Maxim its main competition, pushed the envelope on soft porn.

English: Red pill Português: Pilula vermelha

Daubney held the distinction of being the longest-serving editor of Loaded before stepping down due to a change of heart which was precipitated by the fact that he became a father and his view of the world immediately changed.

His piece is articulate and on point, very much worth your time. However, the article in the link includes cover shots of Loaded, which one reader said caused him some trouble. So proceed with fair warning.

Daubney had what i call a Red Pill Moment; that moment when clarity breaks in on a person’s understanding of his or her world and, finally, they see things as they really are.

The term Red Pill Moment is a reference to the scene in The Matrix, the first film, when Morpheus offers Neo the option of taking the Blue Pill or the Red Pill.

If he takes the Blue Pill, Neo will fall asleep, never learn the truth about the Matrix and live the rest of his life oblivious to the true nature of things.  But if he takes the Red Pill, his eyes will be opened, he will be forever changed and life as it really is will be shown to him.

Neo chooses the Red Pill.

For many of us, myself included, i didn’t so much choose the Red Pill as it chose me.  But there was a point early in my journey where i had to respond to the offer to see things fully as they related to who i had become in my addiction.
