Porn Creates ‘Intimacy Anorexia’
An interesting story in the Washington Times highlights a growing trend: women addicted to pornography.
Porn addiction is not just a problem for men; this much we know from Crystal Renaud, founder of Dirty Girls Ministries.
At first blush, it seems surprising that women would get addicted to porn. But considering the increasing pornification of our culture in which pornography gets treated as fully accepted, mainstream entertainment by larger numbers of people, why wouldn’t women get addicted?
Certainly i would expect the percentage of women addicted to be lower than that of men, but it all comes down to packaging, promotion and changing attitudes.
The Washington Times piece quotes some counseling professionals who make great points about how viewing porn changes how we think about sex and relationships. The phrase used is “intimacy anorexia.”
