Porn Culture Politics
According to this story in the New York Times, Republicans are better patrons of strip clubs than Democrats, and with the GOP convention headed to Tampa, Fla., the 30 strip clubs in the Tampa area are preparing.
To quote the story directly:
Angelina Spencer, the executive director of the Association of Club Executives, which serves as a trade association for strip clubs, said an informal survey of convention business in New York and Denver had determined that Republicans dropped more money at clubs, by far.
“Hands down, it was Republicans,” she said. “The average was $150 for Republicans and $50 for Democrats.”
Granted, it’s an informal survey. However, the larger point is that our political decisionmakers, regardless of their party affiliations, are patronizing strip clubs.
There is another section of the story in which one strip club operator in Tampa says that when the national men’s ministry Promise Keepers was in town years ago they were also good for business.
That comment was not based on anything that could be substantiated, so there’s no way of knowing if it’s accurate. Perhaps the men went there for actual noble reasons, such as when xxxchurch goes to porn conventions and hand out the New Testament while befriending people in the industry.
But we all know the statistics and it’s completely possible that Promise Keepers were good for business. Christian men are addicted to pornography and the porn lifestyle at a rate of 50 percent.
