At Least They Have Lingerie
The post-Hurricane Sandy mess in New York is still a serious problem: see here, here and here.
But at least New Yorkers have lingerie to make it all better. The Victoria’s Secret fashion show, held Nov. 7 and slated to be aired on CBS in early December, must carry on. It’s now a staple of the holiday television schedule.
We celebrate the strangest things. We must have our porn, whatever form that takes.
This mainstreaming of voyeurism is the norm in our culture now. Lingerie is not a problem. Televising women parading around in it is. And making the women who model the lingerie into celebrities is ridiculous.
It’s fine that they are models. Celebrities? We are too easily impressed. And we are, as a culture, obsessed with sexuality.
