Women And Porn

The demographics of porn are shifting, and women are the target, according to this story. The key is to get women into porn because they can make it fashionable.
According to CNBC, the success of 50 Shades of Grey has — in the words of one executive with a porn company — resulted in a “breakthrough” for the porn industry. According to the story, an executive with LFP Inc., the holding company for all of Hustler’s brands, says that 60 percent of the traffic into its store in L.A. is women.
This is a strategic move for the porn industry.
If more and more women are buying porn, it means mainstream acceptance. The porn industry knows it. The world of marketing knows it too.
We have seen this with 50 Shades. Barbara Walters had E.L. James on her year-end-show to talk about the popularity of the 50 Shades trilogy. Walters didn’t have any porn stars on her show. She didn’t have Hugh Hefner, Larry Flynt or Bob Guccione.
It’s the powerful combination of porn and the acceptance of porn by women that makes mainstreaming possible.
