Hooking Up

The New York Times ran a piece — a very lengthy one — on how hook up culture on college campuses is becoming a game that women are playing with increasing regularity.
The reporter spent a good bit of time talking with women students at the University of Pennsylvania.
i haven’t read anything that made me this sad in quite a while.
While the article is long, it’s worth the read. It opens a window into the sexual ethic of the current generation — at least at Penn and similar campuses.
In short, what is described in the article another expression of Porn Culture. The thinking of the women in this article who are hooking up and proud of it is the same thinking that leads men to rely on porn for their sexual enjoyment.
It’s utilitarian.
One of the tragic things mentioned in the article is that one woman says she has a regular hook-up partner who is a guy she actually doesn’t like. In fact, in her own words, she wouldn’t even meet this guy for coffee. Other women talk about hooking up with guys who are hot but at the same time these women admit that unless they are drunk they really aren’t able to hook up.
This is the sexual reality that we get in the wake of an increasingly pornified culture. Sex is something we share with people that we wouldn’t even meet for coffee.
One Response to “Hooking Up”
it really is tragedy that things are this way.
