Thanks For Sharing?

Thanks for Sharing, the film that is billed as a romantic comedy about “three disparate characters who are learning to face a challenging and often confusing world as they struggle together against a common demon: sex addiction,” is getting lots of buzz.

i wonder if it’s getting the buzz for the right reason, though.

There seems to me no end to video sharing when it comes to Gwyneth Paltrow’s striptease scene, and if that’s what the buzz is really based on, then the film runs the risk of being nothing more than a device that stimulates more sex addicts towards their actual habit.

It puts people who want to deal with the issue of sex and porn addiction in a difficult place.  i would love to see a film that deals with the addiction honestly, but doesn’t fall prey to the temptation to put some porn and sex into the film just to make its point.  The fact is, we all know what sex and porn are, the filmmakers don’t need to throw some in _ yet again _ to make sure we all know what we’re talking about when we say “sex addiction.”

So if i am interested to see how Thanks for Sharing treats sex addiction, am i really going to be able to watch this film if i have a past with sex addiction?

Sadly, i think not.

just saw this film yesterday and i found it to be a deeply honest film about the issue. it gets just about everything right, from my experience. there is a sex scene late in the film that you might want to skip but for the most part, there is nothing for us to stumble over. well worth checking out. the main character even has the tv removed from hotel rooms. didnt you say you did that james? the trailer makes the film seem like a light romantic comedy but it is anything but. its takes this issue serious and in a profound way.
