Hollywood? Not

Hollywood is giving porn addiction quite a bit of attention lately. Joseph Gordon Levitt’s film “Don Jon,” and “Thanks for Sharing” _ which features Gwyneth Paltrow _ are the recent projects shining a light on this particular addiction.
It remains to be seen what the real effects of those films will be, and whether or not they are mere entertainment which viewers use as an excuse to indulge more _ or _ if something positive emerges from the treatment they provide of a serious issue.
One thing is for certain: for those of us who care deeply about healing people with porn addiction, most of what that looks like is nothing like Hollywood.
Just this past weekend i had the privilege of participating in an intensive weekend with nearly 50 men who pulled away fromo the demands of life to focus were intently on their hearts and the deep wounds that they have as a result of porn and sex addiction.
It’s brutal, yet beautiful.
Men are seeing change, even if very slowly, as they work through their pain.
But again, it’s nothing like Hollywood.
There are no scriptwriters putting witty or poignant dialogue in our mouths. We are broken men who would not want to be on camera.
But we are real men, pursuing real change, pushing through pain towards life and freedom.
It’s brutal, yet beautiful.
