Porn & Sex Trafficking: Let’s Talk

In 2015, there is a great degree of public awareness about human sex trafficking. Films have been made. Women who have been set free are speaking up about the atrocities they faced. Many organizations such as Love146, the Polaris Project, She’s Somebody’s Daughter and others have dedicated themselves to ending sex trafficking.

Likewise, there is more and more awareness that consumption of pornography, and indeed a more pornified culture, plays a major role in the demand for human sex trafficking.

This awareness it not something we have always had.

In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, when my porn addiction was raging, i had no idea that such a thing as sex trafficking existed. Therefore, i had no idea that my indulgence of porn, or my activities which promoted porn culture, were contributing to sex trafficking.

Now we know some things. And we are speaking up. This is why i am so excited to be part of a panel discussion in April at Cabrini College where we will discuss the connection of porn and sex trafficking. But more than just talk about the connection, we will discuss stopping the demand for it.
