Restoration
There are a number of recurring themes which were part of our lively time gathering as WarriorPoets the other night: Restoration being primary among them.
There is always talk of Restoration whenever men who have been addicted to pornography talk about pursuing wholeness together. We are hungry for the Restoration Jesus described in Luke 4 when He said — quoting Isaiah 61:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
The great hope we have in Christ is that the years wasted on pornography indulgence would be “restored” to us; that what was lost through our own plague of locusts would be returned to us.
Such restoration is essential; it is part of a foundational shift for us as former addicts. As God, through His Spirit, restores us, we are changed at the core level. More than one of us shared how, despite a stumble the week earlier, the acting out and the aftermath have been different.
Foundationally something was unlike previous failures. The deep change meant that a core question of Identity remained untouched by the sin. Who we are as the redeemed men in whom God is working was not altered.
In fact, we are experiencing, step by step, the Lord’s favor.
