Mommy Porn?
One of the hottest selling e-books these days is “50 Shades of Grey,” which is being promoted as “Mommy Porn.”
It’s funny how the title “Mommy Porn” makes it all OK. “Daddy Porn” just doesn’t quite carry the same, positive connotation.
According to the New York Times, the e-book sensation is about to be released in print, now that a publisher has realized how popular it is. Hollywood is also getting into the conversation, apparently, looking bring the book — as well as all three books in the trilogy — to the silver screen. That’s exactly what we need: more porn from Hollywood.
Proponents of the book say it has empowered women and rejuvenated the sex lives of countless marriages. Is that because men are constantly trying to get their wives and girlfriends to get into porn with them and now there is a vehicle for that? Or is it even true that this book is having that effect?
Just like with regular porn, the odds are that the majority of women are not reading this book and seeing a direct application of it in the bedroom with their husbands, especially given the description of the sex scenes in the NYT article. Apparently there’s a good bit of violence: Dominant-Submissive acting out and the use of whips and handcuffs.
The whole thing raises numerous questions, among them: should “Mommy” ever be used to describe porn?

Do I like that Mommy is used in this way? No.
But it seems to be an indicator that ‘porn’ is no longer just a trap for men.
