October: Kingdoms Rise, Kingdoms Fall
Every October i am reminded of the critical events that unfolded in my life years ago and started me on the journey of freedom from addiction to pornography, lust and masturbation. In fact, it’s not just October, but it is this very week that provides the sharpest reminders of all.
This year, i am pleased to be working as a small group leader at a retreat for men dealing with their sexual brokenness. The retreat is run by the counselor who was pivotal for me in my healing.
i have been to a couple of these retreats before, and they are always powerful weekends; filled with emotion and deep encounters with God. Men courageously dive head-long into their wounds.
While these weekends are intense, they are more valuable than words can express. This weekend will be an opportunity to destroy what the Kingdom of Darkness has built in men’s lives, and usher in the Kingdom of God more fully. It will be a place were healing reaches deeper; where freedom gains more of a foothold; and where the light of hope and promise will shine — even if only slightly — more strongly.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. [Col. 1:13-14]
